Hey, what's up you guys? It's Brent here with Madison Brothers Construction, and I'm standing in one of our kitchens that we remodeled here in Marquette. What I wanted to do today was I wanted to try to give you guys a little bit of a perspective on what kitchens might cost you, because the two questions that everybody wants to know when I first walk in your home is, how much is it going to cost and when can you do it?
00;00;23;18 - 00;00;50;37
Brent
While scheduling is really based on how far we are booked out and how many projects we have, I did want to try to give you guys a perspective now on pricing. So this kitchen that you see ran right around $40,000. And if I were to give you an honest perspective, I would say that it's going to fall somewhere between 40 and 50,000, depending on exactly what style of countertops, cabinets and tile you select for your project.

Brent
The way that we got to 40,000 for this project was we had $18,600 in subcontractors, so that's going to be the electrician laying out a new kitchen layout that's going to be the plumber, maybe reworking the sink and hooking it up. And it's going to be a flooring guy, a drywall and painting guy. Some countertops, all that type of stuff wraps up into our subcontractor number.
00;01;17;30 - 00;01;45;55
Brent
And then for this project, we had right around $13,000 in materials. So that's going to be cabinetry. The tile itself, the flooring itself, the appliances kind of all wrapped into that number. And then we had Madison Brothers labor. So that's the hours that our team is onsite building this out for you. So whether it's framing, setting cabinets, installing knobs, all that type of stuff gets rolled into that labor number.

Brent
And then because we are a business and we do have overhead, we do tack on a percentage based profit, an overhead line item onto each project. The profit and overhead for this project was right around $2,000. We do try to be very transparent with you, so you're going to see all these numbers when I actually give you an estimate, because I want you to know where your money's going and how we're spending it, so that we're all on the same page.

Brent
I love this kitchen, and I was very happy to do the project. I hope that gives you a little bit of perspective as you dream about your kitchen.
What Is the Average Cost of a Kitchen Remodel in Marquette?
Kitchen remodel costs vary widely depending on the size of your space, the age of your home, and the materials you choose. But here at Madison Brothers Construction, we’ve completed dozens of kitchen renovations across Marquette and the Upper Peninsula, and here’s what we typically see:
Standard full kitchen remodel: $40,000–$60,000
High-end remodel with custom features: $80,000–$100,000+
A standard remodel includes new cabinets, updated countertops, flooring, appliances, and lighting—and often, a brand new layout to make your space more functional. If you're envisioning a total gut-and-rebuild that fixes old wiring, upgrades plumbing, and adds modern design touches, that range is realistic.
Why Do Kitchen Remodels Cost That Much?
Because every kitchen is different.
What drives the price up? Here are a few factors:
Custom cabinetry vs. stock options
Quartz or granite countertops vs. laminate
High-end appliances from brands like Sub-Zero or Wolf
Structural changes that involve moving walls or reworking the floor plan
Upgrades to plumbing and electrical in older homes
And then there are the surprises. Older homes in Marquette often have hidden issues behind the walls:
Outdated or unsafe electrical wiring
Water damage or mold
DIY plumbing from decades past
At Madison Brothers, we always recommend budgeting for the unknown. A 10–20% contingency is smart planning—especially in historic or mid-century homes around town.
What’s the ROI on a Kitchen Remodel in Marquette?
This is one of the most common questions we get: Is it worth it?
Short answer? Yes.
According to Remodeling Magazine's latest Cost vs. Value Report, a major kitchen remodel can recoup up to 75% of its cost at resale. In Marquette's competitive real estate market, a move-in-ready kitchen makes your listing more appealing and can help your home sell faster.
But even if you're not selling anytime soon, your kitchen is the heart of your home. You use it every day. Investing in better lighting, functional layouts, and durable finishes adds value to your lifestyle—not just your listing price.
How to Plan Your Kitchen Remodel Budget
Start with your priorities. Are you after:
Better function for a growing family?
Updated design to match your taste?
Energy-efficient appliances?
Once your goals are clear, here’s a rough breakdown of where your money might go:
Cabinetry: 25–30%
Labor: 20–25%
Appliances: 10–20%
Countertops: 10–15%
Flooring: 7–10%
Lighting & electrical: 5–7%
Plumbing: 3–5%
Permits, demo, and unforeseen costs: 10–20%
If you’re unsure where to begin, working with a contractor who’s familiar with Marquette homes can help you avoid costly mistakes and keep things on track.
